The health insurance landscape in Massachusetts is changing. Our promise to all NHP members is not.

You may have heard the news on Thursday, November 14th about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) announced by President Obama. According to the President’s statement, the Obama Administration gave states permission to decide if they will allow a one-year extension of health insurance plans that were scheduled to be cancelled under the ACA.

On November 18th, the Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance announced that Massachusetts will not extend the non-compliant plans. NHP supports the state's decision to bring the additional benefits of the ACA to the residents of the Commonwealth in 2014 and continue the success we've already achieved in Massachusetts. Under the ACA, individuals will have access to enhanced, low cost health plans and may also qualify for new state subsidies or federal tax credits.

What does this mean for health plan members in Massachusetts?

Here's what you need to know about the recent ACA updates:

  • NHP will be offering new plans in 2014 to replace your current plan. You'll be able to stay with us and keep your doctor.
  • CommonwealthCare members will now have until 3/31/2014 to apply for coverage, but you may qualify for enhanced benefits and lower costs as early as of January 1, 2014, so we encourage you to apply by December 31, 2013.
  • None of the recent changes affect MassHealth plans or MassHealth members in any way.
  • At this time, we urge all NHP members to know that you can stay with NHP and keep your doctor.

How do I enroll in NHP plans?

As a service to our members, we give you three steps to stay with NHP.

Step 1

Go to and enter your basic information like your income and family size.

This will tell you what type of NHP plan you're eligible for, and whether or not you can get financial assistance with your premiums. You can also get help by calling 1-877-623-6765 (MA ENROLL) or through community navigators or certified application counselors who are unbiased and available to you free of charge.

Step 2

Select a new NHP plan and enroll.

Become familiar with your benefits and make the most of your health and wellness with NHP.

After you enroll, you’ll receive a member kit followed by your member ID card. This will be a good time to learn all about your benefits, our one-on-one care management programs, health and wellness benefits and perks, and more.
