Smoking Cessation

The smoking cessation services at NHP are designed to help members sort through information about quitting methods and decide on a method that is most appropriate for them. The smoking cessation counselor will help members develop behavior change strategies for dealing with the cravings and facilitate access to prescription and over-the-counter cessation medications (both covered by NHP).

The cessation counselor will work with all referred smokers, but place an emphasis on pregnant women, diabetics, and asthmatics. These higher-risk smokers will be followed more intensively than will smokers who do not fall into one of those categories.

OTC Nicotine Replacement Therapy

NHP Members who obtain a prescription for over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum or inhaler) will pay only the pharmacy copayment. Please note: only members with Pharmacy coverage qualify for this benefit.
