Mammograms are used to check for breast cancer in women who don’t show any obvious signs or symptoms of the disease. A mammogram is simply an x-ray of the breast. The entire procedure takes only about 20 minutes. Each breast is placed between two plastic plates. Some discomfort is normal, but if it does actually hurt, be sure to tell the mammography technician.
